Cooking Tips & Recipes
Mussels are typically steamed and served in a sauce, typically accompanied with pastas and other fresh ingredients.
How to Steam Mussels (Quick & Easy!) 🦪🔥
-
Clean the mussels: Scrub the shells under cold water and remove the beards (the stringy bits sticking out). Discard any that are cracked or won’t close when tapped.
-
Heat your base: In a large pot, sauté some garlic and shallots in butter or olive oil over medium heat.
-
Add liquid: Pour in about 1 cup of white wine, broth, or beer (enough to create steam but not submerge them). Bring it to a simmer.
-
Steam the mussels: Add the mussels, cover with a lid, and steam for 5–7 minutes, shaking the pot once or twice. They’re done when they open wide.
-
Serve & enjoy: Discard any mussels that didn’t open. Spoon them into a bowl with the broth, and serve with crusty bread.
